When I first moved to Germany, my housemate told m When I first moved to Germany, my housemate told me to never download movies via torrenting. He has got a fine of 1000 Euros because of that! 😱
.
I was shocked because torrenting was a popular way to download movies in my hometown Hong Kong back then. I had done it when I was in Hong Kong. I didn't know that torrenting could be a problem in another country.
.
I have never used BitTorrent since I am in Germany. Instead, I watch movies with legal streaming websites. 📺
.
The pandemic has hit us for almost one year now. In Germany. we had a hard lockdown, a light lockdown, and then again a hard lockdown. We spent most of our time at home. Streaming movies becomes our favorite activity in the evening. 👍
.
Do you watch movies at home in Germany? Which streaming platforms do you use? It is important to stay safe and avoid any legal issues.
.
Luckily, even a paid streaming platform costs only a few Euros per month. And some others have even free movies. 👍
.
Click here to check out my latest article about 11 ways to stream movies legally at home. These include both paid and free options! 📺
You may feel safe when you are surfing the interne You may feel safe when you are surfing the internet at home.
But is it really safe?🤔
.
Have you heard of the 14-Eyes? These are the 14 countries that agree to share data with each other. And Germany is one of them. The government is monitoring online activities, especially for businesses and foreigners. 😧
.
If you do not mind the governments sharing your data, how about other third parties? Your internet service provider, websites, search engines, etc. They all have your data.
.
Do you use public Wi-Fi? Do you know that a hacker can easily hack your device if the connection is not secure? Do you know that online shops are over-charging you if they see that you are from a wealthy country?😱
.
I never thought about all these in the past. These seem to be not concerning me. I always thought that these only happened to unlucky people. Or I just chose to ignore the safety factor.
.
Until one day, my colleague in Germany told me that someone was using his credit card illegally. The only thing he knew was that he has used his credit card online. It was scary. I started to look more into this. And I realized how dangerous it can get when using the internet.
.
Luckily, we can protect ourselves easily. Using a VPN can avoid all these problems. And it is really cheap and affordable.

.
But I am not optimistic. Many think that this will be further extended. Who knows.🤷
.
Walking pass a field of snow today. I am wondering what I am going to do with my two little ones at home in the coming weeks.
.
Lucky me that I am still in parental leave. So I don't need to worry about work, at least.
.
Wondering how other working parents survive when they have to work from home with their kids. I had done that before when my kids were sick. I think it works if it is just a few days.
.
But for weeks? Or even months? My big respect to these working parents 💪
.
I wish everyone to hang in there. Vaccine is on the way. We are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. All will be good again. ❤️

Today, my girl spends her fourth birthday during t Today, my girl spends her fourth birthday during this quarantine time.
.
Before today, we were worried about how to make her birthday special, without a party and any other special activities outside.
.
No friends. No other family members. Everything is closed outside. No cafe. No restaurant. No zoo. No indoor playground. No nothing.
.
Maybe we adults are just worried too much.
.
At my daughter's age, she is not sad about being quarantined during her birthday.
.
We decorated our living room with birthday theme. We baked her cake together. We prepared all the presents from us and from other relatives. We sang happy birthday together with Opa Oma in the video call. She got a Peppa pig house and is busy playing with it now 🐷
.
She is super happy and excited for everything happened today ❤️
.
Kids are simple and we are blessed 💕
.
My birthday is coming up in a few weeks while we will still be in quarantine. I need to learn from my daughter and be happy with every simple thing 😊

Have you heard of dog tax or insurance for your pe Have you heard of dog tax or insurance for your pets before coming to Germany?
.
I was quite shocked to hear them the first time. Didn't know that such things exist before. But hey, we are in Germany! 🇩🇪😂
.
I have two cats which I adopted from an animal shelter in Germany. 🐱🐱
.
I was surprised at how seriously animals are treated here in Germany. Sometimes, they are treated almost like humans.
.
This is a good thing here. At least I am not seeing all those wild or abandoned cats and dogs on the street like in my hometown Hongkong.
.
Everything is well organized in Germany 👍
.
If you plan to move with your pets to Germany or adopt one here, make sure you know and comply with all the rules here. Especially for dogs. Pet laws here are very strict.

First snow this year ❄️🌨️
.
Since a few years already, there was not much snow in Germany. At least not in where I live.
.
I come from Hongkong where never snows. I saw snow the first time after I moved to Germany. It was amazing. It was like...in a movie 😅
.
Even though I don't ski. Snow is nice to look at. It is a lovely feeling. Everything is white.
.
And of course, kids love snow. The first thing my girl said today in the morning, "Mama, loooook outside!!!!!" 😂

So, we are officially in 2021 now! Happy New Year So, we are officially in 2021 now!
Happy New Year again officially 🥳
Here is an onion flower for our new year decoration 🥰
.
It is again the time of the year to make some resolutions.
.
I have never heard of people making New Year's resolutions in Hongkong. At least I don't remember.
.
However, when I am in Germany, I feel like it is so popular to make some. So, this year, I will join the fun and make some resolutions as well.
.
One of my resolutions will be to get my body back to shape in 2021. My baby is now ten months old but my body is still not back to where it was. So, more regular exercise will be my goal.
.
In fact, the most popular resolutions in Germany include weight loss, exercise, eat healthy, save money, etc.
.
So, my resolution actually belongs to one of them. 😊
.
Fun fact: Do you know that only about 8% of people stick to their resolutions on average?
.
It means that I need to make sure I belong to this 8% 😆 Remember that keep doing the same thing continuously for 21 days and it will become a habit. 👍💪
.
So, what are your New Year's resolutions?

This is my first Silvester in Germany without big This is my first Silvester in Germany without big parties and friends.
.
In fact, we enjoyed our new year's eve only with our close family members. We have our own small "party", with delicious food made with love.
.
I am so blessed that we can spend this time with our beloved family together.
.
Firework sale is banned this year in Germany. Setting off your own firework is not banned. But it is strongly advised against.
.
As at 21:00, I am already hearing firework outside. Not too surprising. I think some German people cannot survive new year without any firework.
.
2020 is a horrible year for many. Think about it positively. It cannot be worse. It means that it can only get better next year.
.
Happy New Year everyone! I have had enough of the "new normal" in 2020. And I wish you all a healthy and "normal" 2021 to come! 🎉
